Why did you choose this tour?
“I had previously visited Cape Town, loved it and I had always wanted to explore more of South Africa. Safari has always been on my bucketlist and I thought this trip would be a fantastic way to achieve both wishes in one visit”
What do you love the most about group tours?
“I particularly love small group tours where you travel with a maximum of 15 people in total in small vehicles. These tours tend to attract people like myself who are curious travellers and want to get under the skin of a country and share that experience with other like-minded travellers. Travelling in a small group often means you can get off the beaten track, eat in local restaurants, meet people from the community and the local guides are always so knowledgable and proud to share everything they know about their country. You get to know people pretty quickly – If you want alone time, you can have it, and if you want to hang out with others and chat over the experiences of the day whilst having lunch or dinner you can do that too.
What was the demographic of the people on your tour?
“Our group of 14 was made up of 6 solo travellers, Two couples , A father and 16 year old son celebrating the end of his GCSEs and an older father and son ticking off a bucketlist trip. It was a fabulous group and we had so much fun!”
What was included in your itinerary?
” This was a fantastic itinerary that had everything! ”
- Three nights in the Drakensberg Mountains at an Eco Lodge – A fantastic way to start our trip, walk in natural beauty, and relax over a beer and braii after our flight and all surrounded by stunning natural beauty
- Travelling via the Zulu Battlefields, we spent two nights in St Lucia on the coast where we saw hippos walking the streets and experienced the most amazing whale watching trip where the hump back whales put on the most amazing display.
- Two nights in Eswatini (Originally named Swaziland) where we stayed at the Milwane Rest Camp – A wildlife sanctuary dedicated to the local wildlife. Here we stayed in the cutest traditional beehive style huts surrounded by free-roaming deer, monkeys, zebras, wildebeest and more and the warthogs were my favourite camp mates.
- Two nights in Kruger National Park where we saw The Big Five and so much more!
What was your hilight of this trip?
“It is so difficult picking one as we saw and did so much, however seeing a huge herd of elephant up close with sizes ranging from the huge bull elephant down to the little babies, was really something special. Seeing how gentle and protective they were of their younger members will stay with me for ever!”
What would you say to anyone who is unsure about whether a group tour is right for them?
“I would say, you have nothing to worry about. I would never class group tours as solo travel as you might arrive alone but you always leave as friends. If you enjoy getting to know a country and enjoy meeting other people too, there is no better way to achieve this than doing it through a group tour. Everything is organised for you, the local guides know everything there is to know about your destination and bring great value and insights in to the culture of the country and communities you are visiting.
